Where is it?
It is located in Valhalla, NY, north of White Plains, and just a 40 min Metro North train ride from NYC.
Directions?
See our website at TheCliffsClimbing.com/directions.html for directions.
What’s in it?
Tons of climbing! Over 200 top rope routes, a huge lead area, and 2500 sq. ft of bouldering with top outs. The gym also offers the biggest climbing shop in the NY metro area, cardio machines, and a training area with a campus board, rock rings, and a hang board.
What’s a standout feature of the gym?
One thing that separates The Cliffs is that 3 of the country’s top route setters give full route turnovers every 3 months on tope ropes and every 6 weeks on bouldering. This translates to 12-16 new routes and 15 new boulder problems each week!
You holding down any comps?
We put on two big comps each year. Our annual “Feats of Strength” comp is the definite, though. It’s held every February. Last year we had 130 competitors show up to throw down.
How old do I have to be?
We recommend a minimum age of 6 years old, but we’ve seen 4 year olds monkey up the walls! We also offer a specialized kids climbing area on a separate mezzanine. This also means that the kids won’t get in your way as you climb.

What’s so good about the Cliffs?
In an area with so many gyms The Cliffs really sets themselves apart. They have an all-star team of setters with John Koots, Hank Jones and Jason Danforth. All with their own setting styles. The staff’s also got a super motivated attitude towards climbing, and you can feel it in the way they operate business. The special events, comps and member parties bring you closer the sport and lifestyle of climbing. These guys know what they’re doing, and it’s apparent they love to do it.
When are the best sessions?
The best sessions are usually Tuesday and Thursday nights during the climbing season. In the off-season it seems like every night is going off.
Any inside info we should know about?
They have best music of any gym. Also, if you can’t find a climbing partner on a nice day, just stop by and there’s a good chance that you’ll end up at the crag or the boulder shortly thereafter. Oh yeah.
Rate it from 1 to 10 with 10 being the best. And tell us why?
The Cliffs is definitely an 11. Mostly because of the great laid back, yet professional, attitudes of the staff and climbers there. Once again these guys love climbing…period.
