What’s your favorite feature of the gym? The best part about climbing at the DBC is the fact that the owners are constantly investing in the gym. Every time a new member signs up, the owners purchase holds, make new features, and add new walls. Also, the 45-degree wall will make most people cry. It’ll make you a stronger climber.
When are the best sessions? The DBC is 24 hours a day. I have had insane sessions at three a.m. with 10 other climbers. Most of the members climb at erratic hours. The best session to check out for your first time is the Tuesday night session. Make sure you get there first, though, so you can put on your own iPod.
Who’s your favorite setter there? All the members are routesetters. I climb at gyms all around the country because I travel for work. We have the most diverse setting I have ever seen. If I had to select one setter in particular, though, it would be Thomas Betterton. The guy has more imagination than most setters will ever have. Inside info? Go after eight p.m. Most crowds clear out after eight, so you own the music and can set new problems in peace.
