 PLASTIC PARADISE: Wall-Nut Creek - Kelley, Iowa
Wall-Nut Creek is housed in a century old dairy barn. It’s Iowa’s first dedicated rock gym and has been open since 1994. WNC features 3,900 square feet of climbing. Rope climbing includes top ropes and leads to 27’. The bouldering is extensive, with two top-out boulders and lots of overhanging terrain. Half the gym is dedicated to bouldering and training with a massive bouldering area. It contains 60+ professionally set and V-graded problems from V1 to V12+, a campus board, and a hangboard farm. Southeastern Michigan is home to one of the largest climbing gyms in the United States, Planet Rock - Ann Arbor. Here, both serious and first time climbers find an indoor climbing Mecca. Endless roped climbing running from steep to steeper. 60 top ropes ranging from 35 to 40 feet high on the main wall, and much of the gym is leadable. The gym boasts over 12,000 square feet of climbing. There are 4,000 square feet dedicated solely to bouldering, which can be found on a freestanding, central boulder island and on the mezzanine, which can be accessed by a bouldering tunnel. Thirty-two top roping stations can be found on vertical, overhanging and slab walls. NJRG also has a giant lead roof, which can accommodate up to five climbers at once.
