Words and Artwork by Adrien Robert / Photos by Mike Sakas
[sAne.]
The ability to flow smoothly through a particular set of motions in a particular discipline has always fascinated me, especially when executed spontaneously. Whether going for a perfect link up of power moves on linoleum or on rock, going to a live performance or performing myself, I admire the ability to flow through a complicated sequence of events. I love to climb. I love to dance. I can't help but draw on whatever surfaces I can make a mark on. Macgyver is my hero and Bruce Lee my role model. I train everyday... In what? I never quite know until the moment arrives and pulls me in. My artwork documents my journey and serves as a vicarious connection to the environments that I love. Each image is composed of a layered mess of errant thoughts, run on sentences, and closed eye visuals, but accentuated with vagrant memories of pastel shades of lichen and tales of flappers with matching red polka dotted Prana pants - but the crux of the story still lies in your interpretation of it.

Note from the editor:
I met Adrien at The Spot bouldering gym in Boulder, Colorado. His enthusiasm for art, climbing and spontaneity was matched only by the proof of his talent, leaning against the wall in a back room of the gym. A series of paintings that created one work of art flowed as smoothly as the most eloquent of poetry. Lines, colors and shapes collided to form something that was so uniquely free in its movement, imagery and style that I couldn't help but think, "This stuff was made for UC." It was pure street art, graffiti, taken into the realm of surrealism and fine art. It was bouldering coming from trad, buildering coming from a different eye for architecture. It was a very natural, very personal expression. And, when I unexpectedly got an e-mail with me these words and a few photos attached, I took it as a proud, opportune time to introduce one of UC's very first regular contributing artists, [sAne.].
