Sonnie Trotter
Sonnie Trotter, a professional climbing dirtbag, strings together a small income through freelance writing and photography, as well “under the table” Thai massage. His ticklist holds over 60 5.14s (including half a dozen 5.14+s). He boulders V12 and is addicted to free soloing and dangerous trad climbing. Sonnie has played street soccer while visiting Malta (where he established DWS FAs), and he’s eaten shark while in Mexico bagging big walls. His favorite crag is Mt. Arapiles, in Australia, but he won’t be returning anytime soon: “If I’m going to travel halfway around the world, I want to see some culture, damn it. Being in Oz is like being in America, except the cars drive on the other side of road.”
For this, his first contribution to UC, Sonnie took a minute to interview his “heterosexual life partner”, Levente Pinter, before boarding a plane with Lydia, his girlfriend to Southern India, where they plan to climb, stretch, and breathe for three months without interruption. Happy travels!

John Dickey
John David Dickey, 32, likes rocks, big and small, waves just overhead, sharks with big teeth, and kittens. He also loves wool and has an affinity for argyles. He’s a Spurs Fan to the bone and a Warriors Believer. His first camera was an Olympus OM2 he had when just a tot. Now, big John shoots digital, and more often than not you can find him clicking away wherever there’s raw, unbridled energy and dedication. He says, “I am very inspired and motivated by people who are truly badass because of hard work, not just the product of privilege or an overly active mouth.”
John would also like to be a speed metal pianist someday, and regrets not having seen Nina Simone live before she died. He also says the best advice he’s heard is "Always up."

Cody Roth
Cody “The Troll” Roth grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and discovered climbing at the age of 10 (in the nearby Sandia Mountains). “I somehow convinced my mom to buy me a pair of shoes, and since that day I never looked back!” professes Cody.
He says that meeting Lance Hadfield (world class climber, routesetter and trainer) was a major turning point in his life. “He was the first to see my potential and the desire I had to climb,” says Cody. “Under his command I trained like Rocky Balboa! And I spent my formative years developing and honing my skills on the comp scene.” Now, aside from invitational comps (a format that Red Bull brought to the Euro scene), he’s retired from doing the competitive thing, and prefers to travel and climb outside.
Cody also digs snowboarding, painting, dancing Salsa, and DJing. If you’re ever in Innsbruck, Austria, look for a short guy with an afro drinking beers at InnKeller he’ll be chilling with the local climbing crew, dubbed the “Cosa Nostra”, and welcoming “family” members with a kiss on the cheek. It’s the real thing.
