Zach Orenczak
When not ducking the law with impromptu tours of Camp Four on a commandeered golf cart or “accidentally” ending up in the middle of the Baja 1000 Zach Orenczak spends his time searching out unclimbed rock with a wild and uncanny cast of characters. Fueled by road fever and a lust for the mischievous Orenczak has co-authored numerous guides (from Devils Tower, The Needles, and Vedauwoo) all in a careening, swashbuckling style you might expect from a mad sailor lashed to his mast in the middle of a thunderstorm. Currently he is jeering around Upstate New York, under the guise of writing a new guidebook to the Gunks, which hits shelves this year. This new guide, like his others, will aim to depart from the traditional irksome style of the past and usher in a new dynamic and colorful topographic format.

Abbey Smith
These days, Contributing Editor Abbey Smith seems to be lost in a perpetual fantasy world. Since the turn of the year, she has spent no more than two weeks in her bed in Boulder, CO and has been jet-setting around the world climbing and documenting her exotic journeysfrom the beaches in Baja to the paddock at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix race. When Abbey isn’t living out of packed bags, she’s a regular fixture in the downtown Boulder cafés or out-of-service, tucked away in the remote mountains doing what she loves most. If you ask Abbey what she’s doing next month, she will give you a blank stareas making plans isn’t her style. Suits us perfectly, she always has another story to tell.

Mike Moelter
Mike Moelter is literally a fixture on the Boulder climbing scene. He has lived there for 11 years, having grown up on the South Side of Chicago and battling routinely with MC’s such as Common. Mike also grew up playing pickup basketball games with none other than Michael Jordan. Ol’ #23 still talks about the white boy on the court that couldn’t dribble, couldn’t pass, and generally couldn’t ball to save his life.
After moving to Boulder and getting a job at the Boulder Rock Club during its
“Golden Years”, Mike discovered rock climbing. When the ABS was offered to him by Scott Rennak, Mike and Anne Worley Bauknight decided to invest in the climbing series and purchased it outright. Through a merger with USA Climbing Mike & Anne Worley Moelter have been working for the organization for 4 years. He has dreamed for years about having the best in the world come and climb on the boulder problems that take him approximately 5 minutes to set and be competition worthy.
These days, Mike can be found endlessly pursuing the most obscure slab choss in Boulder Canyon (and proclaiming it “Classic” because Jerry Moffat climbed it and it is 5 minutes from his house) and getting ready to open a new climbing gym in Boulder.
