2009 World Cup Boulder - Eindhoven, Netherlands
Photos by Jörg Paschke / joergpaschke.de - On June 12-14, 2009, the World Cup Bouldering came to Eindhoven in the Netherlands. With an audience of more than 1000 enthusiastic fans and a professional organization team, the scene of the games a former factory building turned into a place full of suspense until the last minute. The route setting crew gave their best efforts to reveal champions: Austrian Kilian Fischhuber succeeded to take the winner's position over Russian Rustam Gelmanov, who held the lead since the beginning of the season, and Akiyo Noguchi from Japan won the gold in the women's final. The Boulder World Cup 2009 in Eindhoven has shown that bouldering should in fact be part of the Olympic sport disciplines as declared by Erica Terpstra, chairman of the Dutch Olympic Committee, at the end of the finals. Photography by Chuck Kozora / chuckkozora.com - On May 14-17, 2009, climbers from all over the country, a few dogs, and even a duck descended upon the bullet sandstone of the New River Gorge to raise funds for New River Alliance of Climbers. The Wonders of Hampi, India
Photos by Steve Walters / walterscreative.com - When I first got off the train in the neighboring town of Hospet, I couldn't imagine that this was the world class bouldering area. There wasn't a boulder in sight, just fields and cocoanut trees. After 10 minutes on the bus, though I could see my mistake. The boulders seemed to rise up out of the ground, a more prolific crop than any the farmers were growing. Adding to the magic are the 650 year old temples , forts and remnants of a city larger than Rome at its peak. Now, the population of around 3000 has established a very friendly town catering to tourists and climbers. Between the boulders, temples and the friendly people, Hampi really is a climbers dream come true.

Mid-Atlantic Rock
Photos by Spenser Li - Mid-Atlantic climbing, in the Eastern US, isn't the most spectacular destination. In general, it's short and greasy, but it does offer good variety. The Shawangunks' steep, horizontal slots create a sport crag for trad climbers. If you turn the Gunks on its side, you get the towering flake of quartzite that is Seneca Rocks in West Virginia, complete with a seven foot by 30 foot wide summit ridge. The sandstone of the New River Gorge in West Virginia has a plethora of single pitch sport and trad lines. And finally, Old Rag Mountain in the Shenandoahs of Virginia, has some gorgeous granite and classic cracks.
Perfect Blocks in Ticino, Switzerland
Photos by Frank Kretschmann / funst.de - Every year hundreds of boulderers travel to Southern Switzerland to climb on the perfect granite boulders surrounding the small villages of Cresciano and Chironico in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. This year I joined up with Red Chili team members Dani and Phil Hrozek and the two youngsters Sammuel Adolph and Lukas Bolesch. For me it was not the first time, but for somebody who normally shoulders his rope, it was a first to be watching people hanging around in freezing temperatures and being happy about it. After a few days I began to understand why because of the grip of course! Read More. For more information visit: redchili.de.

Escape from New York - Part 4 - Photo Gallery
Photos by Meredith Rike and Kevin Riley - Our first stop in Arizona was Jack's Canyon. Jack's lies east of Flagstaff by about an hour, and features hundreds of well-protected sport routes on clean, white limestone. The canyon itself is ideal, since it doesn’t seem to get used by anyone but climbers and is fairly far off the main roads. Once you get down to the bottom, the trail winds past various walls with routes that range from the super steep to moderate, with everything in between. Another bonus, there are tons of free campsites right at the head of the trail into the canyon, which are secluded feeling thanks to scrubby tree growth throughout.
