California, as you very well know, is massive. Finding and climbing all of Californias rocks could cost hundreds in guidebooks alone because of the hundreds of areas spanning the coastal state. Planning a road trip there could turn into a logistical nightmare pretty quickly.
Luckily for you, Tom Slater and Chris Summit have authored California Road Trip: A Climber's Guide - Northern California ($39.99, tomslaterphotography@yahoo.com) that covers the classics from areas like Mickeys Beach to Half Dome to the Buttermilks. The guide is by no means comprehensive, but given the amount of space it covers, it is pretty thorough and full of must-dos. If youre planning to do some trekking around the Golden State, California Road Trip could prove to be an invaluable resource.
With 455 pages of maps, photos, and route and area descriptions, covering 106 select areas from the Kern River to the northern border, the guide makes trip planning a breeze. They also list gear shop and specific-area guidebook info in case you want to revisit an area in more depth. A southern California volume 2 is in the works to complete the California series.
