Description: Manage and deliver world class routes for all users in one of the world’s finest facilities. Provide routes for all of the climbing school's needs, be a leader in the gym and climbing industry, and be accessible for members and setters to look to for inspiration and guidance.
Specifically the Head Routesetter will:
Deliver engaging/high-quality climbing routes to a wide variety of clientele in one of the strongest climbing communities in the country in a timely, cost-effective manner to achieve maximum problem density
Serve as the point-man in communications between the Routesetting department and The Spot’s patrons
Serve as liaison between the Routesetting department and The Spot’s other departments (Events, Climbing School, etc)
Hire/fire, train, review, lead, and manage a setting crew of up to 8 (more for comps) and provide professional development opportunities for aspiring routesetters
Deliver a detailed and scheduled setting plan for the entire facility including budget analysis and department P&L
Manage The Spot’s routesetting equipment & supplies and wall maintenance
Ideal Prerequisites:
5-years setting experience as a routesetter (head-setter) in a commercial climbing facility
Exceptional managerial, communications, and computer skills
Upstanding reputation in the national/international climbing community
Candidate should be creative, flexible, and a master of subtlety
A systemized and proven setting program
A thorough understanding of the non-obvious parts of the job
Intricate understanding of climbing wall construction with maintenance experience
Position Terms:
Applicant must be willing to commit a full year (minimum) to this position
Applicant must be willing and able to work in a position requiring some long days and off hours
Potential to hire on immediately or work in with current crew throughout summer (Accepting applications through June 15; don’t dilly-dally or it may be filled!)
Pay $12-20/hr (rate dependent upon experience, salary terms negotiable)
