Big
City
Mountaineers,
a
nonprofit
on
a
mission
to
enhance
the
lives
of
under-resourced
urban
teens
through
transformative
outdoor
experiences,
has
appointed
a
new
executive
director,
Lisa
Mattis. Lisa
will
spearhead
the
organization’s
efforts
to
serve
more
youth
through
its
one-to‐one
wilderness
mentoring
expeditions
with
adult
volunteers.
"Big
City
Mountaineers
is
an
exceptional
organization,
and
I’m
excited
to
lead
this
dedicated
team.
Our
programs
deliver
measurable
positive
impact
on
urban
teen’s
lives."
says
Mattis.
"We
are
grateful
to
our
sponsors,
partners,
donors
and
volunteers
for
the
consistent
support
they
have
provided
for
our
programs.
Each
year,
hundreds
of
dedicated
adults
support
our
mission
by
volunteering
with
BCM—either
participating
in
a
summer
expedition
or
joining
one
of
our
Summit
for
Someone
climbs
benefiting
our
programs."
Prior
to
this
role
at
Big
City
Mountaineers,
Ms.
Mattis
was
the
National
Director
of
Individual
Giving
at
Outward
Bound
USA.
Lisa
also
has
a
long
history
with
BCM,
having
served
as
a
member
of
the
Board
of
Directors
and
participated
as
an
adult
volunteer
on
BCM’s
week-long
wilderness
expeditions.
Skip
Yowell,
BCM
Board
member
and
founder
of
Jansport,
comments,
“The
Board
feels
confident
in
our
future
and
in
Lisa’s
unique
ability
to
provide
vision
and
direction.
We’re
looking
forward
to
continuing
to
impact
in
the
lives
of
under‐served
urban
youth.”
BCM
Board
president
Jeff
Weidman
adds,
“Our
goal
at
BCM
is
to
transform
the
lives
of
as
many
kids
as
we
can
through
wilderness
experiences
with
caring
adult
mentors.
We’re
thrilled
to
have
the
kind
of
leadership,
skills
and
expertise
that
Lisa
brings
in
fundraising
and
relationship-building.
In
lock-step
with
our
stakeholders,
we
look
forward
to
taking
BCM
to
the
next
level.”
Lisa
joins
BCM
at
an
exciting
time
as
BCM
is
launching
its
2011
Summit
for
Someone
program
with
a
full
line
up
of
benefit
climbs,
with
registration
open
on
October
1,
2010.
Summit
for
Someone
climbers
take
on
two
challenges—climbing
a
majestic
peak
and
raising
money
to
underwrite
BCM’s
programs
allowing
more
kids
the
opportunity
to
have
their
own
life-changing
outdoor
experiences.
