Armenian First Ascent Open Festival: May 21-31, 2011 The Armenian First Ascent Open Festival was first held in July 2009. This festival, organized by local climbing club "Up The Rocks," is intended to develop the rock climbing culture in Armenia, while at the same time promoting climbing at the local rock formations through the development of new routes.

14th Annual Yank-N-Yard Climbing Comp, Stone Age Climbing Gym The Yank-n-Yard has become a long standing tradition at Stone Age, and it has grown every year for 14 years running. This year will be bigger and better than ever with fresh holds, crazy features, an outdoor climbing zone, a huge prize raffle, and the largest cash purse ever seen in New Mexico. Triple Crown Bouldering Series 2010 - Hound Ears Wrap-up This past Saturday kicked off the first leg of the 2010 Triple Crown Bouldering Series at the Hound Ears boulders in Boone, North Carolina. Taking place within Hound Ears Club's gated golf-resort community, the access-magicians of Triple Crown get this normally-closed area opened to climbers once a year through participation in the Triple Crown bouldering competition.
Kurt Albert Memorial Service A memorial service for Kurt Albert will be held on Oct 9 in Streitberg, Germany. In addition, a fund has been set up in Albert’s name that will be used to cover costs associated with Kurt’s death, with the remainder donated to one of the climbing causes in his local climbing area, the Frankenjura.
2010 REEL ROCK Film Tour The fifth annual REEL ROCK Film Tour launching in September 2010 brings the best in climbing and adventure films to local audiences across the globe. 10th Annual Flagstaff TRASH BASH The 10th Annual Flagstaff TRASH BASH will be happening on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, and you know it will be raining booty. 24 Hours of Gunnison Glory Wrap-Up “Do you know what it’s like to climb 24 hours straight, pitch after pitch on demanding, technical granite till your tips pink out, feet swell, and mouth dries up like the ass end of the Swahili? Well, let me tell you . . . er, actually, I only made it to hour 22.5 at the launch of the friendly new competition: the 24 Hours of Gunnison Glory, held at Hartman Rocks, west of Gunnison, Colorado. But even turning in our scorecards 1.5 hours shy of the finishing line, we came to know the experience. And the thing is, it’s a tough but extremely rewarding one.” This sentiment offered in 2009 by Matt Samet (former editor of Climbing Magazine) was and will always be an amazing summary of the 24 hours of Gunnison Glory, an Endurance Climbing Festival designed with everyone in mind.
Vibram Natural Games 2010 Vibram Natural Games will be back from the 24th of June to the 27th of June 2010 in Millau, the European outdoor sports capital. Canadian Youth Climbing Nationals Wrap-up: June 4-6 Délire centre d’escalade in Québec City hosted the C.E.C. Youth Nationals this year on the weekend of June 4, 5, and 6. This year 123 young athletes took part – most of them travelling from Western Canada. The routesetters did an amazing job of separating the pack, and no Super Finals were needed. Thank you to everyone who was part of the routesetting crew. True North’s own Dustin Curtis flew to Québec to set routes, then dashed off to Vail, Colorado, to represent Canada in the IFSC World Cup Bouldering Competition at the Teva Mountain Games.

Rock Junior 2010 Report If the first day of the Rock Junior was a marathon, the second couldn't have been more action packed, with climbing of course. Beneath the beautiful Garda Trentino sun and the legendary Lake Garda breeze, the Arco Climbing Stadium witnessed another day to be remembered. It all kicked off extremely early, and the first to arrive, as if they were in need of a good dose of climbing, were the teams of the Under 14 Cup.

Gunks Climbers Coalition to Host Waterworks Fundraiser For nearly six years, the Mohonk Preserve and the Gunks Climbers Coalition have worked in conjunction with OSI and the Town of Rosendale to secure the purchase, transfer, and access to one of the Gunks most revered areas, the Waterworks Boulders. It finally seems that access is truly going to come to fruition soon enough, but your help is still needed. While the land purchase has been arranged, the management costs have not. 2010 SCS Southeast Regional Championship Wrap-Up On Saturday May 8, 2010, Urban Rocks Gym hosted the SCS Regionals Championship. This was the first competition of its kind in Chattanooga, and Urban Rocks was happy to support USA Climbing and the Sport Climbing Series. Emily Taylor, the southeast regional coordinator, worked in conjunction with Urban Rocks owners, Chris Gibson and Becky Robran, to put on the most exciting competition that we have had to date.
Melloblocco 2010 The seventh edition of the world's biggest international bouldering meeting took place last weekend in the picturesque val Masimo and val di Mello valleys, Italy. Although every weather forecast last week led to inclement weather during the weekend, the young and multi-colored international crowd of boulderers did not miss their appointment. There were more than 2,000 registered participants, and more than 3,500 people in the valley altogether.
The Northwest Collegiate Climbing Competition Series The Northwest Collegiate Climbing Competition Series (NC3) has pioneered intercollegiate climbing, while demonstrating an increase in participation and recognition each year. This year’s events will be the largest to date with an estimated 1500 participants and spectators from around the northwest. Urban Rocks Gym Hosts Chattanooga’s First Indoor Sport Climbing Competition On Saturday, March 27th, approximately two hundred people arrived bright and early to get checked in and ready for Chattanooga’s first indoor sport climbing competition. By 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Urban Rocks Gym filled with activity of at least six different climbing teams. Out of 77 competitors, some were already tied in getting ready for their first climb of the day, while the climbing teams warmed up with synchronized jumping jacks and a pep talk to get psyched about the competition awaiting them.

Fifth Annual HERA Climb4Life Metro DC The 5th Annual HERA Climb4Life Metro DC, an ovarian cancer fundraiser benefiting the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, is planned for March 13–21, 2010 at several sites in the Washington DC area. The Disciples of Gill - Bouldering Film Retrospective at Neptune Mountaineering A presentation brought to you by Pat Ament on January 28 at 7 p.m. - In the 1960’s there was a small sub-culture of climbers who went against the traditional mountaineering mentality. Ice Climbing World Cup in Kirov, Russia Last year’s overall winner, Austria’s Markus Bendler, has proven he is still the man to beat on the Ice Climbing World Cup circuit. MetroRock's Dark Horse Series - Event 2 Continuing the recent progression of world class bouldering competitions in the NorthEast, MetroRock just finished the second stop of its four comp Dark Horse Series. On December 12th, over 200 competitors and spectators showed up to compete for the Dark Horse title. The top six competitors in each Open category advanced to finals in the evening to battle over the $1,100 cash purse.

The 2009 Triple Crown Bouldering Series The biggest and most bodacious outdoor boulder series is back again - for the 7th time with two of the three events now in the books: Hound Ears in Boone, NC and Horse Pens-40 in Steele, AL. The Valley of the Rocks, or Valle De Las Rocas, is located 750 km south of La Paz and 150 km away from the city of Uyuni. 2009 ARCO ROCK LEGENDS AWARD CERMONY Chris Sharma won the Salewa Rock Award and Kilian Fischhuber won the La Sportiva Competition Award - The Salewa Rock Award and the La Sportiva Competition Award were handed out in front of a packed crowd which went wild as the Jury's verdict for the climbing Oscars were announced; for the rock category the 17 international specialized magazines had chosen Chris Sharma, alias the King, while the competition category went to none other than Kilian Fischhuber.

2009 Vaude Deutscher Bouldercup - Überlingen, Germany The annual Deutscher Bouldercup, this year sponsored by the German companies Vaude and Edelrid, among others, was held in Überlingen, Germany on July 11, 2009. The outdoor competition saw some top bouldering competitors, including Kilian Fischhuber (an Austrian who wasn’t competing in an official capacity, for some reason) and the German Jonas Baumann, both of whom have won several World Cups.

MetroRock Climb's for a Cure On Saturday, April 25th, 2009, MetroRock's towering walls teemed with climbers of all abilities crimping and pinching their way to the finish of 17 routes in a day. Westminster College's First-Ever Intercollegiate Climbing Competition On November 18, 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah, college students with focus and determination from across the state competed for the title of “best boulderer” at Westminster College’s first-ever climbing wall competition. Tye Watkins and Lizzie Nielson, both students at the University of Utah, took first place honors in the men’s and women’s divisions beating out more than 30 other students.

Bolivia Rock Star Festival On November 1st, 2008 at the Amor de Dios Neighborhood in the Aramjuez area of La Paz, the First Rock Star Festival took place. The Vertigo Climbing Club, who organized this event, created a competition based on a triathlon theme where competitors would do a 4 kilometer run, a 60 meter zip line and climb ten routes. Bloqueando Bouldering Competition – Challcupuncu, Bolivia 2008 By Daniel Aramayo - Photos by Juan Gabriel Estellano - On July 19 and 20, we celebrated the second edition of “Bloqueando”, a bouldering event. It's more of a gathering of participants rather than a competition with mostly Bolivian's but also some French, English, German and Mexican climbers who measured their skills and strengths over the weekend on some magic volcanic boulders.
Tout A Blocs - 2008 On July 30 - August 2, 2008 the biggest bouldering event in France the Tout A Blocs (TAB) will be kicking off in the town of l'Argentière la bessée and on the beautiful granite boulders of Ailefroide, France. The competion includes an outdoor international bouldering contest where three hundred climbers competed last year.
Extremity Games 2008 Recap The place looks like a bomb went off. Legs and arms are strewn all over the floor. Sounds grim, but in all actuality, it’s really cool. Girls Education International's Fundraiser at the Hangar Restaurant in Estes Park On Thursday, June 26, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Hangar Restaurant in Estes Park is hosting a benefit for Girls Education International, a nonprofit organization founded by North Face athlete Heidi Wirtz and writer Lizzy Scully. Hong Kong Climbing Competition Recap The very best of Hong Kong's homegrown climbers showed up to battle it out at the 51st Festival of Sport Hong Kong Youth Sport Climbing Championship & Open Ranking Competition on June 8th 2008. Foul weather conditions halted the championships in the morning, but it cleared quickly allowing climbers and spectators alike to enjoy the fantastic display of climbing prowess.

2008 Red Rock Rendezvous Photos by John Evans This is not your typical climbing festival. Over 500 people participated in the climbing clinics taught by guides and some of the worlds best climbers. Over 1000 people attended the festival with folks traveling from across the country and around the world. Presented by Mountain Gear and sponsored by The North Face, the festival returned to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas on March 28-30 to benefit The Access Fund and other local and national non-profit organizations.

Squamish Mountain Festival Recap What an event!!! Everything aligned for the 2nd annual Squamish Mountain Festival. We couldn't have asked for better weather, bluebird and nary a cloud.
