 The 2009 RED ROCK RENDEZVOUS: Presented by Mountain Gear
The sixth annual “Mountain Gear Presents: Red Rock Rendezvous” climbing festival will return to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 20-22, 2009, to benefit The Access Fund and other local and national non-profit organizations. The Five College Outdoor Festival is a celebration of outdoor sports, wild places, and the spirit of adventure. On November 18, 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah, college students — with focus and determination — from across the state competed for the title of “best boulderer” at Westminster College’s first-ever climbing wall competition. Tye Watkins and Lizzie Nielson, both students at the University of Utah, took first place honors in the men’s and women’s divisions beating out more than 30 other students. On November 1st, 2008 at the Amor de Dios Neighborhood in the Aramjuez area of La Paz, the First Rock Star Festival took place. The Vertigo Climbing Club, who organized this event, created a competition based on a triathlon theme where competitors would do a 4 kilometer run, a 60 meter zip line and climb ten routes. Friends of Joshua Tree will host the 11th annual Climb Smart gathering at Indian Cove group campgrounds from October 24 through October 26, 2008. Utah Open Lands, with support from the Access Fund and American Alpine Club, will host the first annual trail maintenance and baselands stewardship event at Castleton Tower on Friday, October 24th, Saturday, October 25th and Sunday, October 26th. The event is an official Access Fund Adopt-a-Crag event. It is made possible by Petzl’s sponsorship of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in Moab which will celebrate its fifth year anniversary this March.
