I met with the boys of Lord Scrummage: Alex, Conor, and Ben, at a table outside Moe’s BBQ in Vail, Colorado during the weekend of the Teva Mountain Games and the U.S. World Cup of Bouldering. They had just arrived a few hours ago and it was their first time in Vail. Vail was one of the many stops on their tour across the country to promote their new album. Other stops on the tour include San Francisco, Dallas, New Orleans, and Baltimore. Alex, the youngest of the band’s members brought his black lab Mooper and was considering entering him into the dog jumping contest, one of the events in the Mountain Games. They were also planning to check out some of the other events at the Teva Games. They had just had their picture taken for Urban Climber and sat down for some BBQ and fries with me.

So how did you guys all meet and how long have you known each other?
Alex: We became friends in middle school because we all went to school together and we all liked to play music so we just started playing together. Conor and Ben actually knew each other before I knew them. We are from Detroit, Michigan.

I read that there is also the group Benny Stoofy. What came first, Lord Scrummage or Benny Stoofy?
Benny Stoofy, and then Lord Scrummage, the three of us are Lord Scrummage. Benny Stoofy is more guys.

What is your favorite song to perform?
Everything, all of our songs.

Does Benny Stoofy or Lord Scrummage do more than just music?
Yeah, one of the guys in Benny Stoofy does paintings and stencils as well. You can see his design on our album cover.

Who comes up with the all the fun titles for your songs?
We all do together.

Has your full album released yet?
Yes, we just finished our album and this tour is promoting it. The album’s called “From the Future.”

I read on your myspace page that your music is described as a mix of Electro, Country and Dub. What is Dub?
Dub is a type of Reggae, but we actually dont sound like this. Shout out to Dub and Dub step though. (They made various other shout outs throughout the interview which included Moe’s BBQ, Dippy the cat and Mooper the dog. Both animals are big influences for the band).
When I looked up Dub music on my own, I discovered that it's pretty much a bunch of remixes of existing recordings that are manipulated and reshaped, in addition to it being a type of Reggae.

Is there anything else about your group that you want people to know?
People should check out our MySpace page, www.myspace.com/lennystoofy.(Their myspace page provides free access to many of their songs as well). If you search bennystoofy, you can get to a page, but its our old page. Also, people should go to Detroit more often to check out the music scene there. And, we love pizza. Pizza Supreme!
